Troubleshooting: Lock Jam
For Troubleshooting a Lock Jam, you must first see where the jamming is occurring.
These tips are for fixing deadbolt lock Jams. Are you able to rotate the lock manually?
If Yes | If the lock is rotating smoothly, then the most common issue is the 'Door Handing'. This is just another way of referring to the rotation of the deadbolt. As a default, these locks are designed to spend in one direction and to fix this, it will depend on the lock. |
Yale Deadbolt Lock: | Enter the Handing Sequence: "Master Code, Gear, 3, Gear, 5, Gear, Gear' |
Schlage Deadbolt Lock: | These locks will automatically hand when they are used for the first time. Enter the 'Emergency Code' listed on your Lynx Dashboard, this will initiate the sequence and when it is completed, the deadbolt will stick out of the lock. |
If No |
Confirm whether the lock rotates smoothly with the door open. If the lock does not operate smoothly with the door open, the lock was most likely not installed correctly. To fix this, uninstall and reinstall the lock, being careful to align all components correctly - you should not need to force any parts together to assemble the lock. |
A lock jam can also be caused by a door frame whose strike hole (the hole that the lock bolt extends into) being too shallow or misaligned due to improper installation, or from the building shifting because of seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. In this case, the lock will operate smoothly when the door is open, but not when the door is closed. To fix this issue, the strike hole may need to be enlarged, and/or the strike plate reinstalled to align correctly with the bolt. |
Lever Lock jams are entierly installation based. If you come accross a Lever that is not locking/unlocking correctly, we would recommend reinstalling it first. If you are still having trouble, please give us a call at 231-599-LYNX (5969)
