Understanding: 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz Networks
All Lynx devices are configured for 2.4 GHz networks
In the era of interconnected homes and smart appliances, the importance of secure and reliable network connectivity cannot be overstated. When setting up your Lynx devices, certain technical aspects can significantly impact the performance and reliability of your devices. One such aspect is the frequency of the Wi-Fi network to which you connect your devices
Understanding Network Compatibility
All Lynx devices are configured to connect with 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) networks. This requirement stems from the fact that 2.4GHz networks provide a larger range, which can be more suitable for home automation devices that may be scattered throughout your home. Therefore, it's crucial to ensure you're connecting your devices to a 2.4 GHz network with its own distinct network name.
NOTE
MOST devices do work on 5 GHz networks, but the performance is not as reliable as 2.4 GHz networks.
Devices that are not compatible with 5GHz wifi
August Connect Hubs are not compatible with 5 GHz, this will only work with 2.4 GHz.
Understanding 'Dual Band' Routers
The most common type of router is the "Dual Band" router, which supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. These devices are programmed by default to send out one wifi signal, that will let the device choose 2.4 or 5 GHz networks.
We have learned that sometimes these devices do not properly place the equipment on a 2.4 GHz network, we recommend creating a separate network, specifically for your Lynx connected devices. You will need to reach out to your service provider if you are renting the router or the manufacturer if you own the router.
Understanding Mesh Networks
Some users may have mesh networks set up in their homes. This is a system of hubs that all work in unison to produce one consistent Wifi network. They are used in larger houses or places where there may be spots in the home that have trouble connecting to the wifi.
Like the Dual Band Routers, they also are programmed by default to send out one wifi signal, that will let the device choose 2.4 or 5 GHz networks. You will need to ensure this device has a separate 2.4 GHz network as well.
By taking the time to understand and correctly set up your network, you can ensure a smoother, more reliable experience with your Lynx devices.
