How To: Install, Uninstall, and Switch the Lynx Driver
The Lynx edge driver allows us to control and communicate with locks that are integrated through the Samsung SmartThings platform. Having the latest driver installed is critical to ensure that devices operate correctly, so updating the Lynx driver to the latest version is a very valuable troubleshooting tool.
Note: In most cases, the Lynx driver will be updated automatically when a new version is
released. The process described here can be used for troubleshooting, but it not necessary
to perform these steps for new driver releases unless there is an issue with a lock.
There are two versions of the Lynx driver that may be installed: a "production" driver for everyday use, and a "development" driver for troubleshooting and testing new features. Samsung also provides a generic "Z-Wave Lock" driver, however this version only supports the most basic functionality and is not used by Lynx.
Important: The production version of the Lynx driver MUST be installed on the hub and
lock for proper functionality! The development driver is NOT suitable for production use,
and must be uninstalled from the hub after switching the driver.
Be sure to complete all steps below before deploying and testing the lock!
Steps to reinstall the Lynx driver:
Step 1: |
Log into the SmartThings account that the hub/lock are paired under in a browser, and navigate to https://my.smartthings.com/advanced |
Step 2: |
Open the "Devices" section in the left-side menu and select the lock that you wish to update.
|
Step 3: |

Step 4: |
This will open a page with options to install/uninstall both the production driver (top) and/or the development/testing driver (bottom). Click the "Install" button for the development driver to install it on the hub. |
With the development driver installed on the hub, return to my.smartthings.com/advanced and click the "Driver" drop-down menu to expand options. Select the "{{{DONT USE THIS}}} LYNX DEVELOPMENT" option.
|
|
Switch back to the driver install/uninstall screen, and click "Uninstall" to remove the Lynx production driver from the hub.
|
|
Click "Install" again to reinstall the production driver on the hub.
|
|
Return to my.smartthings.com/advanced and click the "Driver" drop-down menu to expand options. Select the "Lynx Automation Inc SmartLock Driver" option to reinstall the production driver on the lock.
|
|
Switch back to the driver install/uninstall screen, and click "Uninstall" to remove the development driver from the hub.
|
Note: The hub that the lock is paired to must be online before switching the driver! If the hub
is offline, follow the steps to bring it online before attempting to switch the lock driver.
